Description The International Institute of Lowell is open to dedicated people who would like to volunteer in the following areas: 1.Office: Tasks will include answering calls to the Institute and setting appointments for our clients, other office duties such as copying, filing, etc., and being the smiling face to greet our clients when they walk in for the first time. 2.Intern or volunteer with some interest or experience in immigration law, to assist us with forms, review client files, etc. 3.Employment/ESL/citizenship: Tasks may include literacy tutoring, searching the Internet for employment opportunities for our clients, researching jobs, and assisting in citizenship classes. 4.Case management with recent asylees who have either recently arrived in the US or recently been granted asylum by the US government. The tasks above may be combined to meet the interests and skill sets of our volunteers. Required Skills There is no professional expertise required. However, we require our volunteers to have the ability to work well with the immigrant population. Our volunteers must show patience and have the ability to work well with others, be self-motivated, and stay dedicated to their schedule throughout their commitment with the Institute. Commitment is a minimum of 8 weeks, with a minimum of 4 hours/wk. |
